2018 Annual Pow Wow

There have been some questions surrounding the date of the annual meeting/powwow this year. To clarify- Article XVII Section 1 of the Constitution states “The Tribal Council shall call an annual meeting of all members of the tribe. This meeting shall be held on the fourth Saturday of July.” The powwow is always held the following day. Saturday, July 28th, is the 4th Saturday of the month.

Voting for the annual election will be open from 10am-5pm on Saturday, July 28th. An I.D. will be required.

I live in Orlando Florida and am unable to attend the 2018 Annual Pow Wow. I just got out of the hospital for a Pulminary Embolism.
I would like to find out how can I go about getting my Indian name? Me, nor my children have received ours and we have been members for several years. We have participated in many Pow Wow’s but never received our Indian names.
What do we need to do?

    Takahi (Hello)
My name is Carmela…my husband and I are members of the United Confederation of Taíno People. For the past 7 years, my husband, which is an active member of the United States Team Coast Guard, have been marching with the Honor Guards at Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan Powwow’s Grand Entries. We are planning to support the Eastern Pequot Powwow this coming Sunday July 29th, 2018. Therefore, we are humbly requesting permission to attend the event.
Also, should you want him to march with the Honor Guards in Coast Guard uniform, while carrying the United Confederation of Taíno People’ flag, please let us know, and he will be honored to march at the Grand Entry with the Honor Guards. While waiting for your decision regarding his marching participation, should you grant us permission, we will be there supporting you all, and making new friends with the Eastern Pequot Nation.
    With profound respect,
    – Carmela (Taíno)

    Hello Carmela,

I have talked with the rest of the tribal council and we would be honored to have you and your husband attend the powwow and for your husband to participate in Grand Entry with the Honor Guards. It was recently discovered that the address doesn’t show up when searching via GPS so you can enter 169 Wintechog Hill Road, North Stonington, CT instead. There will be a sign for the powwow and you’ll just follow that dirt road all the way back. If you have any questions, feel free to comment on here again or email us at eptn1683@yahoo.com

We’re excited to see you there!

    Best regards,
    Shianne Sebastian, Tribal Councilor

    Shianne,

Thank you very much for your quick response, and for your kind invitation. I will make sure to tell my husband, and I am quite sure he will be thrilled and honored in knowing regarding the participation approval. It with great anticipation that we look forward to Sunday’s Eastern Pequot Powwow.

    Until then,
    – Carmela
