2018 Archaeology Expo

What: Bring your family to the Pequot Museum for a day of exploration! Archaeologists and historians from across the region will share their discoveries. There’s something for everyone, from experts and professionals to enthusiasts and kids, don’t miss out!
• tour the Pequot Museum’s archaeology labs
• visit historical sites on the reservation
• archaeology demonstrations
• artifact displays
• kids discovery stations (hands-on activites)
• poster sessions
• flintknapping (stone tool making)
• and more!
• Guest speakers will include Nick Bellantoni, who will give a lecture about his new book, The Long Journeys Home: The Repatriations of Henry ‘Opukaha’ia and Albert Afraid of Hawk; Sarah Sportman and Ross Harper of the Public Archaeology Survey Team, Inc. (PAST, Inc.), Dr. Cosimo Sgarlata (Western CT State University), Katherine Reinhart (PAST, Inc), David Naumec of the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center), and CT State Archaeologist Brian Jones.
This event will be held inside the museum’s Gathering Space with its soaring glass ceiling and acclaimed Native restaurant. There is no charge to enter the Gathering Space.

Tribal Health Surveys

The deadline to hand in health surveys has been extended to Monday, November 5th. If you already have a survey, you may hand in your completed form at the registration table at the eye clinic this weekend. If you do not have the survey, you may sign up to complete the online form at the eye clinic or by contacting Ali Owens Keiser via email at owens@uchc.edu

Participation in Schemitzun 2018

Eastern Pequots participated and danced in the Festival of Green Corn celebrating our Native American culture.

Congratulations to:
Elder Norma Parrish dancing at 94 yrs old,
Elders over 70: Vera Leavy– 2nd place and Winnie Jones– 3rd place
Latasha Maddox who danced in Eastern Blanket,
Justin Cunningham Maddox– Eastern War 2nd place,
Summer Hazard– Eastern traditional/ Blanket 2nd place,
and all those who attended.

Councilors and Elders in regalia marched in Grand Entry and were acknowledged.
Ron Wolf Jackson served as Arena Director & designated judges.

August Tribal Membership Meeting

The monthly membership meeting will be held on Saturday, August 25th at 9:30am on the reservation. This earlier time is to accommodate tribal members that want to participate in Schemitzun’s Grand Entry.
